I have been told that when it comes to food I can't leave well enough alone. Honestly I don't consider that a bad thing. There aren't many things we buy rather than make, bake beans is something we do buy. I have made them but it's summer so why heat up the house. Yes, I know most people just open the can and heat them up. Guess they're good that way but I like to just make them a little better.
This is a very easy recipe but I have to warn you if you make it you'll be making it all the time. For me enhancing the taste of things to make it exactly what your family likes is your job when cooking for them. I didn't buy really cheap cans of beans to make this, what I used was Heinz Deep Brown Beans. Yes it would help the no-name beans but we never buy them. Hopefully the people from England won't get mad at me about this. We can get products directly from England in a few stores here, I have tried some which mostly were very good. I tried Heinz English style beans, which I found were not very good. This recipe would definitely help them.
This recipe is for 1 can, you just increase it per can.
1 can baked beans
1/2 onion very finely diced
2 cloves garlic minced
1 slice of bacon finely sliced
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
3/4 teaspoon mustard powder
2 teaspoons butter
Preheat a small saucepan on medium low heat. Add butter, bacon, and pepper, cook until bacon starts to brown stirring often. Add onion, and garlic and cook for 5 minutes stirring often. Add the can of beans, reduce heat to a very low simmer. Add Worcestershire sauce, and mustard powder, stir well. Cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, for one half hour.
