Our search for the best pan mee in the Klang Valley led us to check out Ha Ha Siu Pan Mee in Puchong.
This particular restaurant was recommended when we searched for pan mee in the area.
Located in the ever-busy Bandar Puchong Jaya, we did not have any trouble finding a parking spot as it was located in the quieter part of the commercial area. The shop is recognisable with its huge smiling emoji on the signboard.
Ha Ha Siu Pan Mee offers a great variety
Ha Ha Siu Pan Mee serves a huge range of pan mee on its menu - from the traditional soup to chilli pan mee, and bittergourd fish ball pan mee.
Aside from the offerings of thin, thick and hand-torn noodles - Ha Ha Siu Pan Mee also offers vegetable-based noodles such as spinach, pumpkin and beetroot. The restaurant also serves rice in superior soup.
Traditional Pan Mee Soup is not for us
As it was our first time here, we ordered the Traditional Pan Mee Soup (RM8.80) with our choice of hand-torn noodles.
For one - we enjoyed the noodles as they thinly cut for a smooth slurp. However, the soup is not to our preference as it is quite heavily flavoured by soy sauce.
In fact, the sliced pork and mushrooms were heavily marinated by soy sauce - which seeped into the soup. On the positive side, we liked that the fried anchovies were served on the side, so they remained crispy throughout the meal.
The three chilli condiments were excellent as well.
The Dry Pan Mee is good
We did enjoy the Mushroom and Minced Pork Pan Mee (RM10.50). Despite having no dark sauce gravy, the flavours of the noodles were quite toothsome when mixed together. The runny yolk made the noodles creamy with umami from the marinated mushrooms and minced pork.
The dish is elevated with the addition of dried chilli flakes.
Decent fried wontons and fish cake
We thought the Fried wontons and Fish Cake (RM11.80 for the combo) was quite decent. As they were freshly cooked to order, the wontons were crispy with a decent filling. The fish cake was also tender and flavourful.
Summary
We thought the food here was decent with our obvious preference for the dry noodles over the traditional soup pan mee. Overall, we think this is a decent spot for dry pan mee in the Puchong area.
They wre also good value for money.
