I make a lot of quesadillas because my wife loves chicken quesadillas. I don't mind them but not as often as my wife likes them. A chicken quesadilla is actually very simple to make. All I do is put 3 heaping soup spoons of salsa in a bowl, add 4 chopped green onions and a chopped chicken breast I have cooked. Mix it well together and set it on the counter for an hour. Put the large tortilla in a heated frying pan, grated cheese on the tortilla, then some of the filling spread out evenly. More cheese on top then another tortilla. When the bottom is cooked turn it over, cook the other side, remove it, cut it up and eat it.
I also make a lot of grilled cheese sandwiches, mainly because I really like them. My grilled cheese sandwiches usually don't just have cheese. I have many things in them, bacon, tomato, onions, leftover meat, just about what ever I find in the fridge. Make the sandwich and cook it in a frying pan, when both sides are cooked eat it.
That brings me to my question, is a quesadilla just a grilled cheese sandwich. Tortilla is a type of bread product, filling is the same as what I put in the quesadilla ( minus the chicken which I never put in a grilled cheese sandwich ).
In my mind a quesadilla is just a fancy grilled cheese sandwich with different bread. Just like my grilled cheese sandwiches are just fancy grilled cheese rather than plain ones.
