Last Friday, some of us in the Embroidery Group joined "Needlework Tour" of "Parsham House & Gardens", which is about 15 minutes or so from us by car. The maximum number of the tour is 15 and I think there were 6 of us from the Embroidery Group. There was one person, who had booked, didn't turn up and we waited for her for about 5 minutes or so (we arrived about 5 minutes or so before the time so we were standing outside more than 10 minutes) but she didn't turn up and didn't call them. It was raining on Friday but the temperature was 17C, which I thought was OK not to wear any jacket because, I thought we were going inside and I didn't want to carry it around being too warm. As we had to be standing outside for 10 minutes with some wind, I felt quite cold until we went inside, I regretted I didn't wear a jacket.
Parham House & Gardens
I've been th Pasham House & Garden with my husband before. There are so many Manor Houses in England and many of them are very similar and I cannot remember many of them, but this one is quite different from others so I did remember a lot. I will upload the photos but as it was a rainy day and very dark the photos don't look very good, the ones I uploaded before are much nicer.
Some magnolias were in bloom, the flowers were huge! I haven't been able to blog them but we also have some magnolia blooms but these were double the size of ours.
This is a patchwork table mat (?) that the lady in charge of the tour made copying the technique of one of the table mats displayed here.
The tour started at 11:00am and the house and gardens don't open until 2:00pm so while we were touring some ladies were arranging flowers. They use what they pick in the gardens on the day so they never know what they will be using in advance.
The funny thing was that we were, naturally, attracted to the beautiful flowers and asked a few questions to the ladies doing the flower arrangements, and the lady in charge of the tour said, a few times, "When you are ready!" "I'm jealous that you are all looking at the flowers?" We only took a couple of minutes asking questions. How can anybody resist to look at these pretty flowers.
This box was amazingly beautiful!
After the tour, we (embroidery grouop) had a quick lunch at the cafe.
Tomato & Mozzarella Panini.
To be honest, I'm not that crazy about embroideries/needle work etc but it was still very interesting to hear the stories about them and if you are very interested in them the tour would be fascinating.
