Melinda's is an American food company. Specializes in hot sauces, as well as other condiments. Uncertain when it was founded, sometime after 1989, when founder-owner David Figueroa started a business importing hot sauces from South America then began producing his own. Uncertain who Melinda is. Seems to be all the rage these days, judging by the many linked articles on the website.
First heard of it in a recent CNN article for Father's Day gifts (see The 79 Best Gifts for Men that We Know He'll Love), which links to Amazon. I bought the Random Variety 30 Pack, $37.99 for 30 x 2-oz bottles ($1.27 each) (the Melinda website sells the 2-oz bottles for $2.99 each).
Melting Cheese Burger Pizza is a pie from Jackson Pizza. Described on the menu as [in Korean]: "tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, American cheese, crushed beef patty, crispy bacon, red onion, sun-dried tomato, dill pickle." But what is melting, the cheese (cheese is always melted on a pizza) or the burger (which makes no sense)?
Meh. The "American" cheese was, of course, just processed yellow cheese goo. The "crushed" beef was too chunky, in contrast to the finer grind of an actual burger patty. The "crispy" bacon wasn't crispy. Too my pleasant surprise, the "dill pickle" was actually a dill-ish pickle, not sweet, as cucumber pickles in Korea are by default. Couldn't taste the sun-dried tomatoes. Overall, it just didn't quite come together (figuratively) - in fact, the toppings were piled on so thick that the slices fell apart (literally).
The pizza, both the pizza itself and the big fluffy crusts for which this chain's pies are reknowned, provided an excellent opportunity to sample some of the hot sauces, starting with 3 varieties that had come in duplicate.
My favorite of the 3 was the Black Truffle Hot Sauce. 2 of 5 flames. Nicely balanced, with a good touch of truffle flavor. Food pairing suggestion, according to the label: "whatever you are eating right now."
Next was the Green Sauce. 1 of 5 flames. Comprised of green tomatoes, jalapeƱos, spinach, cilantro, etc., the blend was distinctly herbaceous in character, in a good way.
Last was the Original Habanero Extra Hot Pepper Sauce. 2 of 5 flames. Described on the label as the "flagship sauce ... made the Melinda's way: with whole, fresh ingredients [all the labels say that] ...", it tasted kinda artificial.
