360°Chicken in Mont Kiara

[Pork-free] 360°Chicken 삼육공 치킨 is a new Korean-style rotisserie chicken spot in Solaris Mont Kiara.

Newly opened in March, 360°Chicken is probably the first restaurant in Klang Valley specialising in Korean wood-fired roasted chicken (or tongdak-gui 통닭구이).

This restaurant is operated by Ray - a Korean expat who has lived in Malaysia for 20 years.

He decided to quit his corporate job and open this business to satisfy his personal cravings, and also offer an authentic tongdak-gui experience here in KL.

The term "hidden spot" tends to get abused a lot these days, but 360°Chicken 삼육공 치킨 is a good example of it.

We were unaware of its existence until we explored the area in Soho KL, Solaris Mont Kiara. To access the restaurant, simply take the escalator up to the 1st floor at Block K of Soho KL.

You can't see the shop from the main road but it is essentially located slightly above Chagee and faces the Jalan Duta-Sg Buloh highway.

There are a few more restaurants located here - but 360°Chicken really caught our eye with the huge grill outside the restaurant.

When we arrived, Ray could be seen prepping the chicken on the spit for a true 360° grill on the wood-fire.

The menu here is simple with the roast chicken taking centre stage with four flavours offered - Original, Spicy, Cheesy, and Sweet Garlic.

Regardless of the flavour, each chicken is stuffed with ginseng, jujube, garlic and scorched rice. You can opt for a whole chicken which costs RM75-85 (depending on the flavour) and can choose half-and-half portions as well.

Aside from roast chicken, 360°Chicken also serves fajitas, chicken soup, tteokbokki and buckwheat noodles.

Original chicken was yummy

We ordered a half-and-half portion of Original Chicken and Spicy Chicken (RM95).

We enjoyed both renditions of the bird. In the original form, we could taste the marinade of the chicken which was savoury, with hints of herbs.

The chicken was tender and moist, but the highlight was definitely the stuffings.

As the bird was served on a hot plate, some parts of the glutinous rice was scorched, while retaining a bit of stickiness. The ginseng gives some earthy flavours to the rice, but the best part was the melted garlic cloves.

The bird was served with a trio of condiments - salt, sweet chilli and soybean paste - but we didn't need them to enjoy the chicken.

Spicy chicken was addictive

The Spicy Chicken has the same roasted chicken as the base with a generous amount of spicy sauce placed on top.

The bright orange colour reminded us of African peri-peri sauce, and was deceptively spicy. However, it was also addictive.

Just like peri-peri, it has a good spicy bite with a hint of sweetness and acidity that goes well with the chicken.

The best way to eat the roast chicken is to alternate between the Original and Spicy flavours. The pickled onions and chillies were a good pairing to the Spicy chicken as well.

We also asked for a side of kimchi - which worked remarkably well with the two chicken flavours.

Summary

Yes - we enjoyed the chicken here and we will be back soon! We advise coming early for dinner as the birds can run out pretty fast.
