These are prepared with very basic ingredients and tasty at the same time. Since very less oil is required, these are healthy too. I prepare 'paniyaram' / 'appe' quite often. But not always following this recipe, but the instant option too. I have shared that recipe earlier. If you are interested, you may check 'Instant Rava Appe' Recipe. Adding vegetables in 'appe' is optional but adding vegetables makes them more healthy. Here goes the recipe… Ingredients: - Rice – 1 cup
- Biulir Dal / Kalai er Dal / Urad Dal / Hasked Back Gram – ½ cup
- Rai or Small Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
- Onion – 1 Big
- Carrot – 1 Medium
- Curry Leaves – 1 Sprig
- Green Chilli – 2
- Baking Soda – ¼ tsp
- Salt – To taste
- Oil – As required
Steps: - Wash and soak rice and dal separately for atleast 3-4 hours. After that grind them separately.
- In a mixing bowl mix both the ground paste. Mix very well. Cover and let it ferment for 7-8 hours or overnight.
- Next day chop all the vegetables very finely. In a small pan add 2 tsp oil. Temper it with chopped curry leaves and mustard seeds. Add chopped vegetables and sauté for a while. Remove from heat and let it cool completely.
- Beat the batter for a while and the add the sautéed vegetables and salt. Mix everything very well.
- Now add baking soda and mix for the last time.
- Heat a paniyaram / appe pan. Grease each cavity with little oil. Pour the batter in each cavity with the help of a spoon. Cover and let them cook for 3-4 minutes from one side.
- Remove cover and check the doneness of 'appe', if it is cooked from one side, then turn them carefully with the help of a spoon. Apply little oil on each of the appe. Again cover and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Takeout the 'appe' and serve with 'Sambar' and 'Coconut Chutney'.
Note: ~ The more the batter fermented more the 'appe' becomes fluffy and soft. ~ Adding vegetables is optional, traditionally these are prepared with basic 'dosa' batter. | | | | You can also reply to this email to leave a comment. | | | | |
