I came across a photo of these adorable, ooops I mean scary, monster treats quite awhile ago and saved it to make them some day. Oddly, rice krispie treats are not something I have made often even though they are so easy, and very yummy. I have seen recipes for them on-line where people add vanilla, I personally think they are just trying to add an ingredient for the sake of adding one. You might enjoy a little vanilla, but I think if it ain't broke....
The recipe is on the side of the box, and it works as it should. One thing I will suggest is having a lot of cooking spray near by. These stick to everything. If you are using your hands to spread them in the pan, spray your hands. I used a plastic spatula and sprayed that. I tried to grab a little bit that was left in the pan with my fingers to eat, and it got stuck and I dropped it. It was sad lol.
So let's make some monsters!
Ingredients:
3 tbsp butter
1 large bag of mini marshmallows, 10 oz
6 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
Melting wafers in assorted colors
Edible candy eyeballs
Spray a 9" x 13" pan with cooking spray, and set aside.
In a large pan melt the butter over medium heat. Add the marshmallows and stir constantly until they are melted.
Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the Rice Krispies until completely coated.
Cool before cutting, you can put them in the refrigerator if you want to speed up the process.
Once cool, flip the pan onto a cutting board. If you greased your pan they should come right out.
Cut into rectangles, or whatever shape you prefer.
Separate your candy melts into small bowls, and microwave one color at a time. Finish one color before starting another so the candy doesn't start to harden. If it does, you can just microwave again for 20-30 seconds, give it few stirs and it will be fine.
Spread the candy melt onto the treat and tap gently on the side of the bowl to get the excess to drip back into the bowl. Careful not to tap too hard or the treat will break.
Place on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet, add the eyeballs, and let cool.
I tried to speed up the cooling in the refrigerator, and it changed the color a little. I would recommend letting them cool without refrigerating.
That's it! They make fun little treats for children, or even just for those young at heart. Enjoy!
