Lotus root is the specialty of Hubei province, and usually I love the, spicy crispy, crunchy dry-fried julienned version. The restaurant that we went to recently, however, didn't do it quite right. While the other dishes were fine, this one was a bit of a disappointment as the julienned slices were TOO thin, resulting in a relatively thick coating that tasted nothing like lotus root. It really just felt like French fries... 😦
