Frozen pizza are something I have never liked, actually kind of detested. Yes, they are extremely convenient and for some strange reason kids kind of like. Will give them one thing the toppings on most have been really good. The crusted on the other hand have gone from kind of not good to down right terrible. Most extremely dry and kind of like eating cardboard. Thankfully we only bought them when we were desperate because of running late and hadn't planned supper.
A couple of years ago we were coming back from Miami ( that's Miami Manitoba) and realized we had nothing for supper. It was frozen pizza night for supper. Stopped at our local Sobeys and I ran in to get one. Like I usually do with frozen pizza it is whatever is on sale. Grabbed a pepperoni with classic crust because thin crust frozen pizza is cardboard. We added extra mozzarella cheese which all frozen pizza needs. When we sat down to eat it we were shocked, it was actually better than most pizza we have had delivered. The pepperoni was very good and so was the sauce. The crust, well that was the shock, it was amazingly good.
The brand is Red Baron and for some reason is extremely inexpensive, I picked some up for $4.99. Now frozen pizza isn't a desperation thing, we keep them in the freezer when I find them on sale. We play with them a bit just to have them our way. We always pick the pepperoni off and add more mozzarella cheese and then distribute the pepperoni evenly over it. That's as far as my wife likes to go with it. I, on the other hand like to play a little more with my half. It's usually what I have in the fridge, red peppers or green, red onios, green onions, olives, just about anything. Today I had mushrooms which I thought was perfect. With mushrooms for any pizza I always fry them first. Guess I could of just stopped there but then I wouldn't be me. When it came out of the oven I sprinkled it with red pepper flakes and then lots of finely grated asiago cheese.
One final thing about the Read Baron Classic crust pizza. Even kids leave the outer edge of the crust on their plates. We did also but don't with this frozen pizza.
