K.K Bilak.k.bila 卡卡比拉

By elizbeartravel on Sep 4, 2024

Staying around the Ximending area is great for late evenings when there are all kinds of street food, but in the morning, shops are mostly closed until 10 to 11 a.m. We had to walk a few blocks before finding a breakfast shop which is not serving soy milk and fritters

The reason why it took us quite a while to find a place to settle down for breakfast was because most of the shops sold only soy milk or tea and we were looking for coffee to start the day. We almost gave up till we chanced upon K.K.nbila in one of the alleys of Ximending. The cafe is modern with a takeaways counter facing the main street

They share the same doorway with another takeaway cafe counter but they have limited indoor seats for customers who wish to dine in. As most of the customers order takeaways, the seats indoors are limited to 6 groups only at any one-time

The menu is quite straightforward with a focus on sandwiches, toast and bagels. They do have a local selection of fried onion pancakes and fried noodles for customers opting for a hearty breakfast. You can also customise your own brunch plate with a choice of ham/sausage/eggs and toast. Orders are taken upfront at the outside counter and each customer has to make at least 1 drink order

I had tea while my friend had coffee which was decent but nothing too special. The sandwiches were served sando style packed into waxed paper which was convenient for customers to pick up and bite even if they were eating on the go. We ordered 2 different kinds of sandwiches; one with normal ham and cheese with scrambled egg and vegetables and another the chicken cutlet with scrambled egg and vegetables. They were simple and clean in favour and felt like a fancier breakfast made at home. The bread was lightly toasted and the sandwich was basically packed full of ingredients so each bite had a good mix of meat, eggs and vegetables

Overall, the cafe was generous in the ingredients of the sandwich and it was a very filling breakfast. While the flavours were simple and nothing too extraordinary, I would gladly visit them for a comforting and filling sandwich if I was sick of soy milk and fritters breakfast in Taipei
