今日の夕食は、手巻き寿司でした。結婚して３６年の中で、手巻き寿司って多分３、４回目くらいです。というのも、夫は基本的にご飯はあまり好きではない。カレーとかチリ・コンカーニと一緒に食べる分には美味しいと思って食べるようですが、ご飯そのものを美味しいとは思わないらしい。３６年も日本のご飯をそこそこ頻繁に食べていても、これは変わらず。なので、お寿司も喜ばないんですよね。ただ、お刺身は好きなので、今日はお刺身メイン、手巻き寿司も少し食べてね、という夕食でした。お刺身を巻いても良いのですが、夫はやっぱりお刺身だけ食べる方が美味しいらしいです。一方、わたしは、お寿司、大好きです。お魚は食べませんが夫と正反対に「ご飯大好き！」なので、胡瓜だとか梅肉だとか納豆だとかで十分満足。っていうか、わたしはご飯とお漬物だけでも幸せな人です。ちなみに、夫も納豆、食べられます。
Today's dinner was Temakizushi (hand roll sushi) which is a kind of sushi. You wrap filling with nori (sheets of dried sea weed) and seasoned rice on your hand. I think this is probably the 3rd or the 4th time we have this in our 36 years of married life. The thing is, my husband does not like rice at all. He is happy to eat rice with things like curry or Chilli Con Carne but he doesn't enjoy the flavour of rice itself. He's been eating Japanese rice for 36 years (well, actually longer as he was eating it before we got married) but that hasn't changed so sushi isn't something he likes. However, he does like sashimi very much so the main thing of today's dinner was sashimi with a few temakizushi. He could have used sashimi as fillings of temakizushi but he prefers eating sashimi on its own. On the other hand, I love sushi even though I don't eat any fish at all because contrary to my husband I just love rice! I'm happy to have just things like cucumber, pickled plum, natto etc. with seasoned rice. In fact, I'm happy to have rice with just Japanese pickles.
用意した具は、納豆、胡瓜、梅肉、しそ、キムチ、レタスと生ハムと玉ねぎ。アボカドがあれば良かったのですが、熟れたのはなかった。
The filling I prepared was Natto, cucumber, pickled plum, shiso (steak leaves), kimchee, letuce with Parma ham & onion. Avocado would have been great but we didn't have any ripe ones at home.
肝心のお刺身は、写真を撮り忘れてしまいましたが、このセットです。ただ、サーモンはこんなに分厚くなかっので、立たせたかったのですが無理でした。夫は、とても美味しいと言っていました。
I totally forgot to take a photo of the sashimi but I bought this set - though the salmon was much thinnner, there was no way I could let them stand up like the photo. My husband said it was delicious.
