Who would have guessed such a simple dish can be so crispy aromatic delicious. With just the Mushrooms (shredded), deep fried and then tossed with  5-spice powder and Salt & Pepper. Frankly, U can toss with any dry-spice U fancy. As U would have guessed, this dish would be a perfect finger food platter, especially with an ice-cold pint.  Here's The VianD take on "Crispy 5-spice Salt & Pepper Shimeji Mushroom".

Crispy 5-spice Salt & Pepper Shimeji Mushroom

Ready : 15 mins[ Prep : 5 mins † Active : 10 mins ]

IngredientS

• Shimeji Mushroom –  3 packs of 150 grams - roughly shredded.
-
• Rice/Tapioca Flour –  2-3 tablespoonfuls.
-
Seasoning-

• 5-spice powder, freshly ground Black Pepper, Salt and a pinch of Sugar (just to balance the flavors). All to taste.

** Note : Just a dash/pinch of everything, if U prefer a stronger intensity of an ingredient/spice flavor, simply add a little extra of that ingredient/spice, if saucier, add a little more liquid - no rocket scientific measurement here. Always taste your Seasoning !!! The trick is NOT the exact measurement, the trick is "to taste the Seasoning" and get ur preference balance of flavors !!!

Shredding the Mushrooms

• Mix all the Seasoning Salt well. Set aside.

• Cut off the bottom base (discard) and loosen to individual mushrooms. DO NOT wash - simply lightly clean with a damp napkin if there is any dirt (usually very clean). Roughly shred into equal thickness. Set aside.

• When U are ready to fry, drizzle some cooking oil and Salt all over the Mushrooms and toss well (the oil will help with the coating). Then add the Flour and toss well again, making sure everything is lightly coated.  Set aside.

Deep-frying the Mushrooms

• On medium heat. heat up a nice pot of oil, just below smoking hot. To test if the oil is ready, simply dip a bamboo chopstick into the oil, if it starts to gently sizzle, it's ready. When the oil is ready, gently scatter the Mushrooms around (else will stick together, break them up if any and DO NOT over-crowed) into the oil and fry until golden brown and crispy. Set aside on paper towel to drain off excess oil.

• When the Mushrooms are still hot, loosen into individual strands and simply toss well with the Seasoning Salt mixture, making sure everything is well incorporated.

• Simply plate and garnish and ur plate of crispy aromatic flavorful "Crispy 5-spice Salt & Pepper Shimeji Mushroom" is ready to be served HOT!.
