This last Sunday the Secret Burger Club were at MESA Hockley for their second kitchen takeover at the restaurant. I was gutted that I missed their first one so I was determined to make it to this one
I am a massive superfan of their burger creations and have written countless words of prose deliberating, contemplating and eulogizing over the numerous fantastic combinations they have created π₯³❤️
THE MENU
I was very happy to see that they had a couple of new creations on the menu including a brand new burger special called the CHIMICHURRI and new potato tater tot dish called DREAMY TOTS
Obviously I was going to order both of those while my partner in dine was having the BACON CHEESE burger. There was a little disappointment that our all time favourite DUKE burger didn't make today's play list but I guess that is how it rolls some days.
If I had not had the special I would have fallen back on my default second favourite the WEST COAST and paid extra for the extra patty. I find that out of their regular menu that is the best burger to 'double up' on
THE CHIMICHURRI
So lets have a gander and a taste of this new special called THE CHIMICHURRI.
The menu has it listed as being topped with "Double Beef Patty, American Cheese, House Chimichurri, Crispy Chorizo slices, Pink Pickled Onions, Garlic Aioli"
I think I like all of those things so I was pretty hopeful of a taste sensation slapping me gently across the chops and I was not to be disappointed
As always the superstars of the burger are the ever reliable Dry Aged Chuck Steak burger patties inside their custom seeded brioche bun
This was a burger that I feared would find my tastebuds overtaken with the flavour of Chimichurri and be overly spicy or pungent but oh no this was very gentle on the palate, in fact it was hard to discerne the taste within the overall flavour profile.
It was all very harmonious (I often say that about the Secret Burger Combo's) as it played nicely along with the sweet tang of the chorizo and the creamy and familiar tones of the garlic aioli, both of which I enjoyed immensely
This was a very satisfying burger to eat, all the flavours married well, and it was quite gentle on the eye and a well balanced combination πππ€©
DREAMY TOTS
Today the new tater tot special was the DREAMY TOTS described as being "House tots, chip spice, house cheese sauce, crispy onions, Frazzle dust, bbq sauce, and baconaisse"
This was a generous portion and there was a lot going on and it was hard to work out what I was tasting at times. The highlights for me was the Frazzle dust, the baconaisse, and the cheese sauce. However the BBQ sauce didn't quite do it for me, I felt it wasn't needed and sort of got in the way.
I was glad I tried it but not sure I will have another trayful, I am not a massive fan of tater tots anyway so maybe I am just not on board with the program for this particular side dish.
Just give me some cheesy fries next time, perhaps with a bit of chopped up bacon and I will be a very happy camper πππ€ͺπ
All in all in the end, as always, I was very happy with my burger from the top burger smashers in Nottingham and probably the country. They have never let my tastebuds or stomach down and continue to delight my senses and satisfy my soul. ππ
Today they were here at Mesa in Hockley but more recently they can be found at regular pitches with their van at the Royal Oak in Radcliffe on Trent on a Thursday evening, and at the Milestone Brewery in Cromwell on a Friday.
To see where else they might be, keep an eye on their social feeds, especially their Facebook page and their Instagram feed. They like to drop the news on their Stories so keep checking π§π
