I have been reading a lot this year. I've stopped watching shows on my computer and started reading instead. It makes me much happier. In June I read nine books.
Uncharted by Tracy Garvis Graves. This book is a follow-up to On The Island, which I read in May and loved. This book was good, but not nearly as good as On The Island. Don't bother with this book. I give this book two out of five stars.
Covet by Tracy Garvis Graves. Meh. This is when I decided I don't have to read any more of her books. I give this book one out of five stars.
The Off Limits Rule by Sarah Adams. This author is great for when I am stressed and need a fun book for my brain to take a vacation from worrying. In this book, a single mom falls for her brother's best friend. Enjoyable. Happy. Not stressful. I give this book three out of five stars.
All Rhodes Lead Here by Mariana Zapata. After life kicks her in the face a woman returns to her childhood home in small town Colorado. She rents a room from a grumpy game warden. This book was quite enjoyable, and not what I was expecting. The characters had depth and grew throughout the book. I give this book four out of five stars.
The Backyard Bird Chronicles by Amy Tan. An iconic novelist's nature journal about her backyard birds. Great drawings. Interesting stories. I liked hearing about the birds that visit her patio. If you like birds and nature journaling check this one out. I give this book four out of five stars.
Sylvia's Second Act by Hillary Yablon. This book is like if the Golden Girls and Sex and the City were merged into one show. After she finds her husband in bed with another woman Sylvia starts her life over in New York. Best friend in tow she finds a way to make it after being a housewife for all of her adult life. I loved reading about a character outside of her twenties. I give this book three out of five stars.
Stars in Their Eyes by Jessica Walton. This is a graphic novel about a disable queer kid at comicon. That's all you need to know. I give this book three out of five stars.
Four Thousand Week: Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman. The average human life only lasts four thousand weeks. We have all sorts of techniques telling us how to get more things done, but they don't really work. There is never enough time to get everything done, so decide what really matters to you and do that. I freaking love this book. I will be buying myself a copy so I can reread this over and over. I give this book five stars.
Crossings: How Road Ecology is Shaping the Future of Our Planet by Ben Goldfarb. I get that trying to convince you to read a book about roads is an uphill battle, but trust me on this one. This book is excellent. I cannot recommend this book enough. It is insightful and funny. I give this book five out of five stars.
Have you read anything good lately?
