A few days ago, our favourite resident dove ('Dovesy') passed away. She had been visiting us on the kitchen windowsill since early 2021, had brought her young ones to meet us for three seasons, and in the end, when feeling poorly came to us for food, and perhaps protection. We gave her the both in her last few days, sheltering her from the elements and predators, until she died on Sunday 30 July. A very sad day.

Last photo of Dovesy, taken 27 July 2023. After a night in the house, we released her in the garden to see if she could fly. She couldn't. She spent her last couple few days in the roomier woodshed with plenty of water and food.
